How Google Voice Works

Google Voice unifies communication channels such that through one single, free phone number, several phones ring simultaneously. It works like most other phone numbers: give your Google number for people to contact you. Upon an incoming call, you have several options to handle this communication.

At its core, Google Voice is not a VoIP service like Skype, but it does take advantage of VoIP technology over the internet in order to route some of its calls, to allow international calls at a cheap rate, to allow free local calls, and to offer the numerous features it is known for.

How Google Voice Works

Google Voice links with the PSTN—the wired landline telephone system—and the mobile network to hand over the calls. Any call initiated through Google Voice necessarily has to pass through the PSTN. However, the PSTN doesn’t do all the work. The call is then handed to the Google servers, which is where the numbers are pooled.

Say, for example, that the call is directed to another Google Voice number. That number is identified within Google’s numbers, and from there, the call is sent to its final destination.

The main aim of Google Voice is to unify communication channels moreso than saving on cost. As a result, you can easily switch carriers without having to change the phone number, because one number can ring any phone through any carrier. If you physical phone number changes, all you need to change is the number to which your calls are routed, which is at your discretion and easy to do.

How to Get Google Voice

Google Voice apps are available for download for the major mobile platforms.

Open the Google Voice website and click Get Google Voice. Sign in to your Google account if asked.

Choose iOS, Android, or Web.

You might also see a Terms of Service and Privacy Policy screen. Accept them with the Continue button.

On the page that asks about choosing a Google Voice number, enter a city or area code to get a phone number from that region.

Review the numbers presented and then choose one to use as your Google Voice number by clicking or tapping Select.

If you want to see more than the few that are shown by default, choose the Load More button under the numbers.

Verify your existing phone number with the Verify button on the following page.

Enter the phone number that Google Voice should forward incoming calls to then select Send Code.

Check your phone for the text message from Google, and then enter that code on the Google Voice website in the text box that reads G -. So, it'll look something like G-9820.

Select Verify to confirm that the code has been entered correctly.

Choose Claim to confirm that you want to forward Google Voice calls to that phone number.

Use the Finish button to finish setting up Google Voice then click Finish again on the final screen to open your Google Voice account.

How to Make or Receive a Skype Call Using Alexa

With Alexa synced to Skype, making Skype-to-Skype or Skype-to-phone calls is easy. Just use the appropriate command:

How to Add a Printer to Windows 10

Adding a printer to Windows 10 is straightforward, although the process differs for wired versus wireless devices.

How to Add a Printer to Windows 10: Network
A network printer connects through your local network, such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Before you connect to your printer, turn it on and join it to the network.



















Go to Start > Settings.
Select Devices.
Select Printers & Scanners.
Select Add Printer or Scanner.
Wait while Windows 10 searches for nearby printers.
Select the name of the printer you want to add, then follow the on-screen instructions to install the printer onto your computer.
If the printer you want to use doesn't appear in the list of available printers, choose The printer that I want isn't listed.
Choose the option that corresponds with your printer and select Next.
Follow the on-screen instructions to install your printer.




















How to Add a Printer to Windows 10: Local
When you set up a new local printer, connect the power cord as well as a USB cord, with which you connect it to your computer. Cable connections often automatically initiate driver installation. If prompted, you will need to download and install specialized printer software and driver. Then you can add it to your computer.

Type printers into the Windows Search box.
Select Printers & Scanners under System Settings in the search results list.
Select Add printers or scanners. Wait while Windows 10 searches for nearby printers.
Select the name of the printer. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the printer onto your computer.

If Windows 10 is unable to recognize a printer connected by a USB cord, try the following troubleshooting steps.

Shut down the computer.

Restart the computer.

Attempt to install the printer. If Windows still does not recognize the printer, continue troubleshooting.
























Disconnect the USB cable from both the printer and the computer.

Reconnect the cable, ensuring that it is securely connected to both devices.

Attempt to install the printer. If Windows still does not recognize the printer, continue troubleshooting.

Plug the USB cord into a different USB port on the computer.

If Windows still does not recognize the printer, try using a different USB cable, as a damaged cord will prevent you from securely connecting the printer to your computer.

Design: Futuristic design powered by Alexa
The Fire TV Cube is a cute, futuristic-looking block that will stand out on your home console despite its 4-inch sides. On the outside, it’s virtually unchanged from the first-generation model. Across the top, there’s a blue LED bar that lights up whenever the Cube takes action. The sides of the cube have a glossy black finish that’s a fingerprint magnet. There’s volume and menu buttons on the top, as well, but we don’t foresee a lot of use for them considering that the Cube comes with a remote. In the back, there’s an HDMI connector, a power adapter port, and a micro USB port.

In order to give users flexibility in how they set up their streaming system, Amazon’s built in eight directional microphones into the Fire TV Cube, and another into the remote. As long as the Cube is at least a foot away from any audio output sources (i.e. speakers), it should have no problem hearing your voice commands from ten or more feet away.

The Cube’s voice commands are probably its most distinguishing feature. Unlike the Fire TV Sticks, the Fire TV Cube also functions as an Alexa speaker, meaning it will respond to any voice commands, and more importantly, it has the same capabilities as an Amazon Echo. In other words, it can control your Internet of Things devices, such as smart bulbs, thermostats, and Ring doorbells.

You will also receive an Alexa-enabled remote with your Cube. It has buttons to navigate the UI, but it also has volume and power buttons that will work with your TV. It’s small, about the size of your palm, and it has a matte black finish that will make it easy to grip. The relatively large buttons make it simple to navigate the Cube without looking at the remote, as well.

The Amazon Fire TV Cube is a fantastic streamer for those committed to the Alexa ecosystem.

My biggest pet peeve with the Cube’s design and features is its accessory bundle. For $120, Amazon could have afforded to throw in an HDMI cable—the $30 Roku Express has one, for instance. If you end up purchasing a Cube, remember to also get an HDMI cable. I’ve found Blue Rigger strikes a great balance between affordability and quality, if you need a recommendation.
