What Are Google Pixel Buds and How Do They Work?

Google’s Pixel Buds are wireless earbuds with an array of features, including Google Assistant support and real-time language translation via Google Translate. It’s part of an ever-growing market that includes Apple AirPods, Samsung Galaxy Buds, and Amazon Echo Buds.

What Are Pixel Buds?

Pixel Buds are wireless earbuds that include Google’s virtual assistant, Google Assistant. The built-in mic filters out background noise for better quality calls, and the ear tips have a three-point anchor system that should keep the Buds in your ear. The Pixel Buds come in four colors: orange, white, mint green, and black.

Which Smartphones Work With Pixel Buds?

These earbuds incorporate a lot of technology. They have built-in Wi-Fi, long-range Bluetooth, and voice commands via Google’s virtual assistant as long as you have a smartphone running Android 6.0 or later.

Both Android and iPhone users can use the Pixel Buds to listen to music, podcasts, audiobooks, and other audio, as well as make and receive phone calls. The earbuds are sweat and water-resistant.

Google Pixel Buds Sound

Pixel Buds come with ear tips that create a seal to keep noise out, and its speakers adapt to your environment by automatically adjusting the volume depending on the noisiness of your location. When you make a call, two built-in mics make sure the other party can hear you by blocking background noise, including wind.

Conveniently, the Pixel Buds can detect when they’re in your ear, and each one has touch controls for play, pause, and volume adjustment.

Google Pixel Buds Wireless Range

Built-in Bluetooth 5 means the Pixel Buds can stay connected from as far as three rooms away when inside, and 100 yards away when outside. Google says the Pixel Buds will last up to five hours of continuous use, and the included charging case gives you another 24 hours.

Pixel Buds Google Assistant Integration
Using Google assistant, you can send text messages, ask for directions, and request translation help. You can either use the OK Google wake word or use a touch and hold gesture on the right earbud.

When you request a translation, Google Translate launches in conversation mode. From there, you can begin your conversation or record audio to translate. The translation will play through the earbuds. This Pixel Buds feature supports about 40 languages, including Finnish, Mandarin, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Technical Details to Know

Competitors of Pixel Buds include Apple AirPods 2, Amazon Echo Buds, Samsung Galaxy Buds, and Microsoft's Surface Buds. Pixel Buds are similar to these competing products, though a different shape and size than the rest.

A single charge yields a five-hour battery life; if you use a charging case, that extends to 24 hours.

Google Assistant voice control requires an Assistant-enabled phone running Android 6.0 or later. The translation feature also requires at least Android 6.0. If you have an iPhone running at least iOS 10, you can use the Pixel Buds as a Bluetooth headset, but you can't use the Assistant or translation features.

Pixel Buds are sweat and water-resistant so they can withstand a walk in the rain and an intense workout, but not a swim in the pool.

What Is the Amazon Echo Loop and How Does It Work?

The Echo Loop is an interesting Amazon device because it’s a smart ring, and they’re not as common as some of the other smart wearables on the market. It begs the question: What is a smart ring, and why is it considered “smart?”

What Is the Echo Loop?
The Echo Loop is a smart ring, designed to work with Alexa, Amazon’s voice assistant, and the company’s line of smart home products. Just like a wedding band or conventional ring, the Echo Loop is meant to be worn on your finger—which hand you choose doesn’t matter.

While the Loop has most of its functionality built-in, you'll need to use the Amazon Alexa app to alter settings and sync up with the ring in certain ways. This is an important distinction to make, because it means in addition to the ring, you need access to a supported mobile device or smartphone.

The ring itself is made of scratch-resistant titanium and has a water-resistant design so it’s safe to wear almost all the time. You don’t have to worry about taking it off when you’re doing the dishes, or hopping in the shower.

But this is more than just a piece of jewelry. The Echo Loop functions similar to any Echo or Alexa-enabled device, Amazon’s Echo smart speakers being the prime example. With the ring, you can interact with Alexa by asking questions, sending messages, calling contacts, adding items to your grocery lists, and much more. Essentially, anything you can do with another Alexa-enabled device, you can do with the Echo Loop.

How Does Echo Loop Work?
The Echo Loop allows you to communicate and interact with Alexa without having your smartphone or mobile device in-hand. On the back of the band is a small button, which calls upon Alexa as soon as you press it.

Embedded within the ring are two microphones, a speaker, a battery, a Bluetooth 5.0 wireless antenna, and a Piezo haptic feedback module.

When you press the action button on the rear of the band, it activates the microphones, which you then use to communicate with Alexa. After you issue your command, Alexa will respond, as she does via similar devices, using the built-in speaker. The haptic feedback module will let you know through a minor vibration that everything worked as intended, just like when you receive a notification on your smartphone.

Alexa is, for all intents and purposes, an incredibly useful voice assistant that can record appointments, make calls, create to-do lists, perform web queries, and much more.

Getting Fitted for an Echo Loop
Before buying the Echo Loop, Amazon recommends ordering the free sizing kit. The kit includes a demo of the various ring sizes you can use to identify the ideal ring size for your finger: small, medium, large, or extra large.

What to Expect from Apple in 2020

I’m not just a tech pundit, I’m an avid tech customer. Each year, I buy new gadgets from companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Facebook, and Apple, which means I have a vested interest in their plans for the new year. However, few companies take up as much of my psychic space as Apple.

Like it or not, the tech company is not just a manufacturer of gleaming gadget goods. That it holds such a unique place in American Cultural zeitgeist is mostly thanks to its co-founder, the late Steve Jobs, who imbued product creation with something more than just development, design, and production, and sprinkled a sort of hyperbolic fairy dust over the whole thing so that, somehow, we never saw Apple products in quite the same way as we did, say, a laptop from Dell or a phone from Samsung.

Some of that magic surely died with Jobs in 2011, but I think Apple CEO Tim Cook has done a yeoman’s job of keeping that “fairy dust” flame alive, even if he hasn’t introduced as many fresh, awe-inspiring product categories to the Apple canon.

That all might change in 2020, though.

The New New
There will be many changes—some significant—to existing Apple product categories in the launch of the new decade, but this could also be the season of Apple “Wow,” where Apple reclaims its originator rights to the phrase, “One more thing.”You find signals of Apple’s intentions in the most unusual places.

It might surprise you to know that Apple has almost 7,000 job openings worldwide. They cover a wide range of skills and responsibilities and could be, when looked at a certain way, as a sign of future product activity.

The 8 Best Linux Laptops of 2020

Our editors independently research, test, and recommend the best products; you can learn more about our review process here. We may receive commissions on purchases made from our chosen links.

Linux is an operating system that many consumers, businesspeople, and developers swear by it. It may not have the backing that the other big operating systems have, but it’s still a very capable, not to mention free, operating system. There are at least a few laptops out there that come with Linux pre-installed, but your options are limited. The fact is that the majority of major computer manufacturers simply don’t build laptops with Linux — but the trade-off is that there’s plenty of room for smaller companies, many of which are quite good.

Best Overall: Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition

The Dell XPS 13 is already considered one of the best laptops out there, period, and the fact that it’s available with Linux too makes it the clear top choice for those who want a stylish, powerful, and lightweight laptop with Linux.

Under the hood, the Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition has a lot to offer. The base model comes with an 8th-generation Intel Core i5 processor, coupled with 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD. That's more than powerful enough for the Ubuntu 18.04 build that it comes with. The computer can, however, be customized to include an Intel Core i7 with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The base model’s 13.3-inch display has a resolution of 1920 x 1080, though you can upgrade it to a 4K display. Weight-wise, the computer is only 2.67lbs.

Best Budget: Pinebook 11.6" Linux Laptop

This laptop certainly isn’t the most powerful device out there — but for the price, it’s a great choice for those who simply want to try Linux a little.

Under the hood, the laptop features a quad-core ARM Cortex A53 processor, coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of flash storage. There are also two USB 2.0 ports, a MicroSD card slot, a digital video port, and a headphone jack. The display on the base model comes in at 11.6 inches (though it can be upgraded to 14 inches) with a resolution of 1366 x 768. It’s pretty thin and light, too, with a thickness of 0.47-inches and a weight of either 2.30lbs or 2.78lbs, depending on the size of the model you go for.

Best Macbook for Linux: Apple 2018 MacBook Air

Just because a laptop doesn’t come with Linux pre-installed, that doesn’t mean that you can’t install Linux on it yourself. MacBooks are loved for their great design and powerful hardware, and there are plenty of guides out there on how to install Linux on your MacBook, though it’s something we only recommend to those who know what they’re doing. If you’re interested in this, we recommend the new 2018 MacBook Air, which is beautifully designed and features relatively powerful hardware.

What Does Telework Mean?

Telework sounds like a fancy work-from-your-telephone type of job, but it's really just a synonym for telecommuting. These terms refer to a type of work arrangement where an employee or employer does not commute to the primary office location for work but instead works from home or an off-site location.

In other words, telework is any situation where work duties are accomplished outside of the regular office location where a group of employees might also work. However, telework does not refer to situations where employees sometimes take work home with them or where an employee's job involves a lot of off-site work or travel (like sales).

Federal Government Usage
The U.S. Office of Personnel Management and General Services Administration uses the term telework for Federal Government reporting purposes and regarding all policy and legislative matters.

Their Telework Guide defines telework as:

"Work arrangements in which an employee regularly performs officially assigned duties at home or other work sites geographically convenient to the residence of the employee."
To be considered a teleworker, the employee has to work remotely at least once a month.

Telework is also known as remote work, flexible work arrangement, teleworking, virtual work, mobile work, and e-work. However, telecommuting and telework didn't always have the exact same definition.

How to Work From Home
Working at a different location from your employees or colleagues might seem like an enticing idea. After all, organizations that have telework policies often report greater employee satisfaction, since working from home provides greater work-life balance for the employee.

However, not all employers support teleworking situations. There are several things you should consider before you ask your employer if you can work from home. Read company policy about remote work before you offer the idea of telecommuting.

If you want to become a work-at-home employee, you should be aware of what to expect. There are definitely advantages and disadvantages to a telework position, just like there are for regular, on-site work arrangements.

What Is a Smartwatch?

A smartwatch is a portable device that's designed to be worn on a wrist. Smartwatches — like smartphones — use touchscreens, offer apps, and often record your heart rate and other vital signs.

The Apple Watch and Wear OS (formerly Android Wear) models prompted more consumers to appreciate the usefulness of wearing a mini computer on their wrists. In addition, specialty smartwatches for outdoor activities often supplement other, bulkier devices in an adventurer's tool kit.

Short History of the Smartwatch
While digital watches have been around for decades — some with abilities like calculators and unit converters — only in the 2010s did tech companies begin releasing watches with smartphone-like abilities.

Apple, Samsung, Sony, and other major players offer smartwatches on the consumer market, but a small startup actually deserves credit for popularizing the modern-day smartwatch. When Pebble announced its first smartwatch in 2013, it raised a record amount of funding on Kickstarter and went on to sell more than 1 million units.

At the same time, advances in silicon miniaturization opened the door to other kinds of dedicated-purpose smartwatches. Companies like Garmin, for example, support smartwatches like the Fenix, which are more rugged and are optimized with sensors and trackers to support back-country expeditions. Likewise, companies like Suunto released smartwatches optimized for scuba diving that withstand extended time at significant depths.

What Do Smartwatches Do?
Most smartwatches — whether they're intended for daily use (as with the Apple Watch) or for specific purposes (as with the Garmin Fenix) — offer a suite of standard features:

Notifications: Smartphones display notifications to alert you of important events or activities. The types of notifications differ; devices connected to a smartphone may simply mirror the phone's notifications on your wrist, but other smartwatches display notifications that only a wearable could provide. For example, the newest Apple Watch includes a fall sensor. If you fall while wearing the watch, the watch senses your subsequent movement; if it doesn't detect any, it'll send a series of escalating notifications. Fail to respond to the notification, and the watch will assume you're injured and alert authorities on your behalf.

Apps: Beyond displaying notifications from your phone, a smartwatch is only as good as the apps it supports. App ecosystems vary, and they're tied to either Apple's or Google's environments. Smartwatches with a dedicated purpose, such as for hiking or diving, generally support the apps they need to accomplish that purpose without the opportunity to add other kinds of apps.

Media management: Most smartwatches paired with smartphones can manage media playback for you. For example, when you're listening to music on an iPhone using Apple's AirPods, you can use your Apple Watch to change volume and tracks.

Answer messages by voice: Remember the old Dick Tracy comics, where the hero detective used a watch as a phone? Modern smartwatches running either the watchOS or Wear OS operating systems support voice dictation.

Fitness tracking: If you’re a hard-core athlete, a dedicated fitness band is likely a better choice than a smartwatch. Still, many smartwatches include a heart rate monitor and a pedometer to help track your workouts.

GPS: Most smartwatches include a GPS for tracking your location or receiving location-specific alerts.

Good battery life: Modern smartwatches feature batteries that will get you through the day, with normal use, with a bit of juice still left to go. Battery use varies; the Apple Watch typically gets 18 hours of normal use on a single charge, while the Pebble gets two or three days.

The New New
There will be many changes—some significant—to existing Apple product categories in the launch of the new decade, but this could also be the season of Apple “Wow,” where Apple reclaims its originator rights to the phrase, “One more thing.”

You find signals of Apple’s intentions in the most unusual places.

It might surprise you to know that Apple has almost 7,000 job openings worldwide. They cover a wide range of skills and responsibilities and could be, when looked at a certain way, as a sign of future product activity.

I’ve never believed Apple wants to build a car. It’s a frustrating business with uncooperative third-party partners and a sales and distribution channel that actively fights against new consumer shopping paradigms. It has terrible upgrade cycles (think years if not a full decade) and selling at scale is incredibly difficult. These are all the hard lessons Elon Musk learned in his decade-plus climb to the top of the electric vehicle heap.

VSee at a Glance
VSee is a great video conferencing tool for informal meetings, especially between doctors and patients. Not only does it let users have an online conference, VSee also nicely supports online collaboration.

It is very low bandwidth, so even those on slower Internet connections can make the most of their VSee video conference and collaboration.

VSee was used In 2009 and 2010 when the United Nation’s Refugee Agency (UNHCR) needed to stream a live video link to Darfurian refugee camps in Chad for Angelina Jolie and Hillary Clinton. Today it is used by astronauts aboard the International Space Station.

Getting Started on VSee
As mentioned before, users need to install VSee prior to using it. The installation process is easy and straightforward, and installation is quick. Once you have installed the software and created an account, you are ready to start using this software. Much like Skype, you can only call those who have also already installed and created an account with VSee. Also, those on the most basic package can only call people within their team. The installation process can cause small delays if you want to conduct an impromptu meeting with someone who is not already a VSee user.

To make a call, all you need to do is double-click the name of the person you need to speak to on your address list. You can also choose to type the person’s username in the search field and press enter. This is useful if you have a large number of contacts, for example. Once the call is connected, you can begin your video conference. Users can video conference with up to 12 people at a time.

VSee is extremely intuitive, so even those who are new to video conferencing can easily learn to use it. The software’s controls are easy to find as they are all located at the top of the video window.

The 8 Best Beat-Making Software of 2020

Our editors independently research, test, and recommend the best products; you can learn more about our review process here. We may receive commissions on purchases made from our chosen links.

Dollar for dollar, feature for feature, there is honestly no beating Ableton’s Standard edition for the professional DJ or producer. It’s not as bloated, price-wise, as the Suite version, but not as slim on features as the Intro version. In terms of basics, it has everything you’ll need, from unlimited audio and MIDI (musical instrument digital interface) tracks to 12 sends and returns to 256 mixable virtual tracks. You can capture MIDI (and learn some triggers) and they’ve included some complex warp features, as well. There are 10GB of sounds built into the library, containing 1,800 different samples and loops. Get creative with the five built-in software instruments to lay down your own original melodies and beats. Plus there are 34 baked-in audio effects (eight dedicated to MIDI), so those looking for post-production won’t be missing anything. Any DJ worth their salt is most likely using Ableton Live 10.

Runner-Up, Best Overall: Propellerhead Reason 10
If you ask professional DJs and producers what software they prefer for producing their beats, a lot of them will tell you Ableton. But a smaller loyal group will point you towards Propellerhead’s Reason 10. The full version comes in at a great price point and includes all of the premium features you'll need. With the full version, you’ll get Reason’s 10 tried-and-true software instruments, including the Europa Shapeshifting Synthesizer, the Thor Polysonic Synth, the Subtractor Synth and more. The loaded version also gets you a host of exclusive effect plugins, including the RV-7 Digital Reverb, the PH-90 Phaser and the BV512 Vocoder. Of course, you’ll also get unlimited audio and MIDI tracks, VST (virtual studio technology) and ReFill support and anything else you’ll need to produce high quality, completely professional tracks.

Best Budget: Ableton Live 10 Intro
Ableton Live 10's Intro version serves as a perfectly adequate understudy to the standard version, especially if you're just getting started producing or DJing. You get a large subsection of the features of the standard version for a solid price — a real bargain considering what you get. The major trade-offs? You’ll have to settle for only 16 audio and MIDI tracks, so if your music is expansive, you might need to shell out for the full version. You still get the MIDI capture and learn features, but they’ve slimmed down the audio ins and outs to only 4 of each. Surprisingly, the rest of the numbers aren’t actually that low. The Intro version of the software gives you 1,500 (5 GB) of sounds, four software instruments (only one less than the full version), 21 Audio effects and eight MIDI effects (the same as the full version). So if you can stomach a much smaller feature set and fewer tracks, but love the looping, grid-style interface of Ableton, this might be the software for you.

What is the Samsung Galaxy Fit?

In 2019, Samsung announced the release of a pair of new fitness trackers called the Samsung Galaxy Fit and the Samsung Galaxy Fit E. These fitness trackers take the form of more well known fitness tracking bands, and are more affordable than the Samsung Galaxy Active Smart Watch. They are also slimmer, lighter, and more accessible to most people than many competing models.

What Is Galaxy Fit?

Both the Galaxy Fit and Galaxy Fit E are designed to automatically track activities, including walking, running, rowing, biking, and elliptical exercises. Users can track up to 90 additional types of activities when they connect the Galaxy Fit to the Samsung Health app. However, those activities will need to be started manually from the app.

Both Samsung wearables also have heart rate monitors, but only the Samsung Fit tracks your heart rate 24/7. The Samsung Fit E does not have constant heart rate tracking, but both models have stress and sleep tracking features. The Fit E, which is the lower-end fitness tracker, has slightly less overall functionality than the Samsung Fit.

The Samsung Fit retails for around $80, while the the Samsung Fit E can be found for less than $50.

Both devices have Bluetooth connectivity, allowing you to receive notifications from your Samsung smartphone. However, there are no music capabilities on either device, which means you may be disappointed if you're looking for something to tracks your activities while playing a workout playlist.

Also notably missing from the Samsung Fit line is GPS capabilities. The Samsung Fit may make up for this with its full color, AMOLED touchscreen, but the Fit E only features a black and white screen. Both devices will have capabilities to add at least some basic widgets for alarms, calendars, and weather.

How to Connect Fitbit to Alexa

Your Fitbit is great for tracking basic fitness stats, but what if you'd rather use a voice command to learn about the data your Fitbit has collected? That's easy to do, since Alexa has a Fitbit skill you can enable. After turning it on, you can ask Alexa to tell you all sorts of things about your Fitbit.

How to Pair Fitbit with Alexa

It doesn't matter what kind of Fitbit you have. Whether you own a fitness band like the Fitbit Charge or a Fitbit smartwatch like the Versa 2, Fitbit and Alexa get along in the exact same way. You simply need to enable the Fitbit skill on the Alexa app. You don't need to be wearing your Fitbit, and the Fitbit doesn't even need to be charged.

Launch the Alexa app on your mobile device.

Tap the hamburger menu at the top left of the screen, then tap Skills & Games.

Tap the Search icon at the top of the screen, type "Fitbit," then tap Fitbit when it appears in the search results.

On the details page for the Fitbit skill, tap Enable to Use. That will open the Fitbit login page.

Log in by entering the email and password you ordinarily use to log into your Fitbit account.

On the next page, you need to give permission for Alexa to see all of your Fitbit data. Choose all the data you want to share with Alexa, then tap Allow. In most cases, you'll probably just want to tap Allow All.

After that, you should see a message that Fitbit has been successfully linked to Alexa.

What You Can Ask Alexa About Fitbit
Once you're set up, Alexa has access to a treasure trove of fitness information about you. Specifically, Alexa will know fitness data that has been synced to your account. Alexa won't know about information that is only located on the fitness band and hasn't yet been synced, so for the best results, you should have your Fitbit configured to sync automatically through the day.

You need to preface every question to Alexa with the phrase, "Alexa, ask Fitbit…" Here are some common things you can ask Alexa:

"Alexa, ask Fitbit how many steps I've taken."
"Alexa, ask Fitbit how far I've walked today."
"Alexa, ask Fitbit how many calories I've burned."
"Alexa, ask Fitbit how I'm doing today."
"Alexa, ask Fitbit how I slept last night."
"Alexa, ask Fitbit what my resting heart rate is."
"Alexa, ask Fitbit how many flights of stairs I've climbed."

What Is a Wireless Access Point?

Wireless access points (APs or WAPs) are networking devices that allow Wi-Fi devices to connect to a wired network. They form wireless local-area networks (WLANs). An access point acts as a central transmitter and receiver of wireless radio signals. Mainstream wireless APs support Wi-Fi and are used in homes, public internet hotspots, and business networks to accommodate wireless mobile devices. The access point can be incorporated into the wired router or stand-alone router.

What Is a WAP Used For?

Stand-alone access points are small physical devices that closely resemble home broadband routers. Wireless routers used for home networking have access points built into the hardware and work with stand-alone AP units. When you use a tablet or laptop to go online, the device goes through an access point, either hardware or built-in, to access the internet without connecting using a cable.

Several mainstream vendors of consumer Wi-Fi products manufacture access points, which allow businesses to supply wireless connectivity anywhere they can run an Ethernet cable from the access point to a wired router. AP hardware consists of radio transceivers, antennas, and device firmware.

Wi-Fi hotspots commonly deploy one or more wireless APs to support a Wi-Fi coverage area. Business networks also typically install APs throughout their office areas. While most homes require only one wireless router with an access point built in to cover the physical space, businesses often use many. Determining the optimal locations for access point installations can be a challenging task even for network professionals because of the need to cover spaces evenly with a reliable signal.

Use Wi-Fi Access Points

If the existing router doesn't accommodate wireless devices, which is rare, the network can be expanded by adding a wireless AP device to the network instead of adding a second router. Businesses can install a set of APs to cover an office building. Access points enable Wi-Fi infrastructure mode networking.

Although Wi-Fi connections technically do not require the use of APs, they enable Wi-Fi networks to scale to larger distances and numbers of clients. Modern access points support up to 255 clients, while old ones supported only about 20. APs also provide the bridging capability that enables a local Wi-Fi network to connect to other wired networks.

What Happened to the Social Bookmarking Site Blinklist?

Blinklist is gone, but there are other great bookmarking sites out there
Blinklist was a great social bookmarking site for beginners and for long-time web users. It allowed users to organize their bookmarks based on keyword tags, see how others rated their bookmarks and view recently added, popular, or hot public bookmarks. The site also used to feature video tutorials that made it easy for those new to social bookmarking to get up and running.

A "blink" button could be added to the browser toolbar for quickly bookmarking and tagging sites without moving away from the website. Users could also highlight some of the text on the site and add it to their bookmarks as an added bonus.

The Bottom Line
Blinklist made getting started with social bookmarking pretty simple. Setting up an account was as easy as choosing a name and password, entering your email address and typing in the letters from the spam filter image.

Once your account was set up, Blinklist took you through a quick tutorial explaining how to add the blink button to your browser and how to bookmark sites. Those new to social bookmarking likely found their video tutorials a helpful bonus.

The blink button allowed you to add a website to your list with a single click. Instead of taking you to the Blinklist site, the button brought up a small window where you could add the appropriate keyword tags, type in a small description, rate the website, or send the site to a friend. If you highlighted a section of text on the website before clicking the button, the text would appear in the notes field, saving yourself some typing.

imilar to Delicious, bookmarks were arranged on an easy-to-read page where you could easily search through them. You could also see how many blinks they had, which indicated the number of times they had been bookmarked by other users. You could also see the overall rating given by the users.

Friends could also be added on Blinklist and public bookmarks could be searched through. While this was a relatively simple process, there were still a few kinks in the system. For example, while you could see who added a website in the recently-added list, you couldn't see who added bookmarks in the 'hot now' or 'popular' lists.

Blinklist also had quite a spam problem, so sometimes searching through the public bookmarks was frustrating when most of the sites that came up were spam. This might have contributed to the failure of the site over time, especially as other social bookmarking sites became more popular.

One nice added bonus was the message board that allowed you to post a quick message. This was a real benefit to new users who had questions and couldn't find the answers in the FAQ.

In the list that expands, look for anything that says Bluetooth. If the list shows a device with the word Bluetooth in its name, then you have a Bluetooth adapter on your machine and can proceed to the next step.

If you have a Mac, choose System Preferences from the Apple menu and select Bluetooth. If the Bluetooth preferences displays options to enable Bluetooth and make your device discoverable, Bluetooth is installed.

If You Have No Bluetooth Device Installed
Don’t worry too much if you don’t have a Bluetooth device already installed. While most modern computers already have the hardware, it is easy to add on by visiting your favorite technology retailer and purchasing a ‘Bluetooth Dongle;’ this is a small thumb-sized device that plugs into one of your computer’s available USB ports. Once you install the device on your machine, you can then proceed.

Setting Up Your New Bluetooth Headphones in Windows
The process for setting up your Bluetooth headphones is quite straightforward, but again varies based on whether you have a Windows PC or Mac. At a step in the process, you will need to put your headphones into what is called ‘Discovery Mode.’ Every set of headphones accomplish this differently, so you will need to reference your headphone instructions on how to go about the process.

Ensure that your headphones are in Discovery Mode according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Select Start and enter "Devices and Printers" into the Search box.
Select Printers and Scanners in Windows 10 or Devices and Printers in Windows 8 or Windows 7 in the list that appears.

Select Bluetooth and Other Devices in the left pane of the Printers and Scanners or Devices and Printers window. Choose Add Bluetooth or Other Device.
Allow the computer a moment to find your device and select it from the list.

After a few moments, your Windows PC should alert you that the pairing was successful.
